CustomPix Review: Features, Pricing, and Alternatives for Catalog Ad Creative

In this CustomPix review, we cover what the app does, its key features, how its pricing works, where it falls short, and four alternatives worth considering.

It is written for Shopify brands running catalog ads on Meta who want more control over their ad images than the default gives them, and who want to know the limits before they install anything.

What is CustomPix?

CustomPix is a Shopify app that decides which product image your catalog ads show, how that image is cropped, and what price or badge sits on top of it. By default, a Meta catalog ad uses the first image on the product record and crops it automatically. CustomPix lets you make both of those choices yourself.

How CustomPix works

Everything it does happens at the feed level. It reads your product data, applies the image choices and overlays you set, and delivers a product feed that Meta Commerce Manager reads like any other source.

Your Shopify theme and your storefront stay the same, and shoppers see the same product pages. Only the ad changes.

Key features of CustomPix

CustomPix groups its features into image control, dynamic overlays, feed delivery, and its Shopify integration.

Image selection per product and per variant

You can pick any image from a product's gallery instead of taking the first one. You can also set a different image for each variant, so a t-shirt shows the color the shopper is being served rather than whichever color leads the gallery.

A dress can show the model shot instead of the flat lay. The choice is saved against the product or the variant, so it applies to every ad that product appears in.

Crop control for Meta's ad formats

It allows you to crop images to the sizes Meta recommends: 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16. You position the product inside each frame yourself instead of letting an automatic crop decide where the edges land. That helps most with tall and wide products, which a square crop doesn't work.

One product image can then serve a feed placement, a Stories placement and a Reels placement without looking cropped by accident.

Dynamic price, discount and badge overlays

CustomPix prints data from your Shopify product record onto the image itself. You can add:

  • Current price
  • Discount percentage
  • A sale badge
  • A logo or a custom badge

The values come from your product data, so a price change in Shopify reaches the feed on the next daily refresh. CustomPix also supports conditional show/hide rules based on product data such as discount percentage, stock level, tags, and collections.

Feed delivery, supplementary or full

CustomPix can run alongside the feed you already have or replace it. As a supplementary feed, your existing feed stays primary and CustomPix adds the image layer on top.

That is the right setup when a feed management tool already owns your product data. As a full feed, CustomPix delivers the product feed Commerce Manager reads. Either way, the output works with Meta Commerce Manager and regenerates every 24 hours.

Shopify-native setup

CustomPix is a Built for Shopify certified app, a badge only about 4% of apps in the Shopify App Store carry. It installs from the App Store, works inside your Shopify admin, and reads your product data automatically. There are no theme edits and no code to add, so nothing on your customer-facing site changes.

Platform support

CustomPix supports three ad platforms:

  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram)
  • Reddit
  • Pinterest

CustomPix pricing

CustomPix has three published pricing plans, with custom pricing available for catalogs above 50,000 variants. Price is set by the number of variants in your catalog, not by ad spend. Every plan includes the same features, so paying more buys catalog capacity rather than extra capability.

There is a 7-day free trial, billing runs monthly through Shopify, and there is no long-term contract.

Plan Price Variant limit
Pro $19/month Up to 1,000 variants
Pro 10k $39/month Up to 10,000 variants
Pro 50k $89/month Up to 50,000 variants
Custom Contact CustomPix Over 50,000 variants

Two things to check before you compare that price against another tool:

  • The price jumps at each plan limit. A store with 1,001 variants pays $39 a month, the same as a store with 10,000.
  • You pay for every variant in the catalog, not the ones you customize. A store with 40,000 variants that only wants better images on 200 products still pays $89 a month.

Benefits of CustomPix

CustomPix does a few things well, and they are mostly about cost and ease of setup. Here are its main advantages.

  • The entry price is low. $19 a month covers 1,000 variants, and $89 a month is the top of the published range. For a store testing whether image control moves its catalog ad numbers at all, that is a small amount of budget to commit.
  • It installs without touching your storefront. As a Built for Shopify certified app it works inside your Shopify admin and needs no theme edits. Nothing on the customer-facing site changes.
  • Setup is easy. The app connects to your product data in minutes, and the 7-day free trial gives you a week to look at a generated feed before you pay for anything.
  • The refresh cycle is predictable. The feed regenerates every 24 hours, so price changes, new products and image selections all land on a known schedule.

Where CustomPix falls short

CustomPix has three main limitations.

Ad platforms other than Meta, Reddit and Pinterest

CustomPix does not publish support for three of the larger catalog ad platforms:

  • Google Shopping
  • TikTok
  • Snapchat

Video and motion creative

CustomPix makes static images only. Its published feature set has no video, no motion and no AI generation. If video ads are part of your catalog plan, that part needs a different tool.

Product feed management

CustomPix focuses primarily on feed visuals and does not offer the broader field-cleaning and transformation capabilities of a full feed management platform. It can, however, populate Meta custom labels from Shopify collections, tags, and metafields for product segmentation. If your feed carries messy titles or missing categories, a better ad image does not fix that.

Marpipe's Feed Management is a free tool that covers this layer. With it you can:

  • Clean messy product data, standardize formats and remove duplicates
  • Rename, merge, split or transform any field in your product data
  • Build product sets, apply labels and segment your catalog
  • Push the finished feed to Meta, Google, TikTok, Pinterest, Snapchat and Reddit from one place

Try Marpipe's Feed Management for free. There's no SKU limits and no expiry.

Who should use CustomPix?

CustomPix fits a specific shape of store. Use it if most of this list describes you:

  • You run on Shopify
  • Your catalog is under 50,000 variants
  • You advertise mainly on Meta, Reddit or Pinterest
  • You want control over which image your catalog ads show
  • Your budget for this is $19 to $89 a month
  • You do not need video creative
  • Your product feed is already clean and well organized

4 CustomPix alternatives

If CustomPix stops short of what you need, these four tools take on the same job with more range. Marpipe is the top choice because it helps from feed management through to designed creative for every product.

1. Marpipe

Marpipe's Catalog Ad Creative generates a designed ad for every product in your catalog from a single template. With Marpipe you can:

  • Design one template in a drag and drop builder, with any field in your feed connected to a text or image element
  • Apply conditional rules, so a clearance product and a full price product get different designs from the same template
  • Use smart cropping and automatic background removal, so uneven product photography still renders cleanly
  • Add dynamic elements such as price strikethrough, percentage off badges, countdown clocks and realtime social proof
  • Publish output feeds to Meta, Google, TikTok, Pinterest and Snapchat from one place
Marpipe connects directly to your product data and turns it into scalable, testable creative variations

Pricing starts at $199 a month on the Startup plan, which covers up to 500 SKUs. Enterprise starts at $999 a month for larger catalogs. Marpipe's Feed Management is free on every plan.

2. Hunch

Hunch is a creative automation platform for paid social. Catalog ads are one part of a wider suite that also covers media buying, insights and campaign automation, so it fits teams automating creative across several ad types rather than catalog ads alone.

Features:

  • Import a key visual from Figma or Photoshop and make any layer dynamic against feed data
  • AI enrichment: background removal, orientation detection, and primary and secondary color extraction from the product image
  • Conditional visibility for discounts, savings, countdown timers and scheduled promos
  • Image-to-video generation at scale, with preset or custom animations
  • Context personalization by location, language, time of day or weather
  • Publishes to Meta, TikTok and Snapchat

Hunch does not publish pricing. Access starts with a demo and there is no self-serve trial.

3. Confect

Confect is a catalog ad design platform for e-commerce advertisers, built Meta-first. Its emphasis is on running several designs against the same catalog and testing which one performs, rather than setting a design once and leaving it.

Features:

  • Full design editor with custom fonts, brand assets and product assets
  • AI background removal
  • Design rules and scheduled design changes, so creative can switch by condition or by date
  • Multiple designs inside one ad, with A/B testing and analytics
  • Native 9:16 designs for Story and Reels placements
  • Video Catalog Ads and product-level video on Meta and TikTok
  • Publishes to Facebook and Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Pinterest, Reddit, Klaviyo, Salesforce and around ten more channels

There are three pricing plans.

Local is $299 a month (1 market, 3,000 products), Pro is $499 (3 markets, 10,000 products), and Global is $999 (10 markets, 30,000 products). Annual billing saves 20%, every plan includes a 30-day free trial, and anything beyond 10 markets or 30,000 products is Enterprise.

4. Socioh

Socioh is a managed service rather than a self-serve app. Its team works alongside your design and growth teams to build and iterate branded catalog ads, and positions itself as an extension of an in-house team.

Features:

  • White-glove design service included on every plan. Socioh's team produces the creative
  • Branded catalogs across placements: carousels, Stories, Reels and product-level videos
  • Catalog setup support, so the feed and product sets are configured with you
  • Ongoing A/B testing and performance reporting on the ads it designs

It has four pricing plans. Starter is $1,100 a month under $250k monthly revenue, Growth is $2,100 from $250k to $800k, Scale is $3,500 from $800k to $3.2m, and Enterprise starts at $5,000 above that. Billing is monthly with no lock-in, there is no free trial, and there is no percentage of ad spend on top. Socioh does not run or manage your ads.

Why choose Marpipe for your catalog ads

Catalog ads are usually the highest-spend, least-tested creative in an ecommerce account. Most teams test their prospecting statics constantly, then let the catalog ad run as a product photo on white and leave it alone for months.

Marpipe lets you test catalog ads the same way you test the rest of your creative. You build one template, connect it to your feed, and every SKU comes out as a designed ad. Then you build a second version of that template, run both, and keep the one that performs better.

  • Run two or more versions of a template across the same catalog and see which design wins
  • Apply conditional rules so clearance and full-price products get different treatments inside one template
  • Put the offer in the image itself: strikethrough pricing, percentage-off badges, countdown clocks, live social proof

Book a demo and bring your own feed. You will watch your own SKUs render through a single template on the call, and see what a tested catalog ad looks like next to the one you are running now.

FAQs

Does CustomPix work with Google Shopping?

No. CustomPix supports Meta, Reddit and Pinterest only. Its FAQ says "more channels are available on request," but Google Shopping is not among the documented three. If you run Google Shopping ads, you need a separate feed and image solution for them.

Can I use CustomPix with an existing product feed?

Yes. It runs as a supplementary feed alongside your current one, which stays primary while CustomPix adds image control on top. Choose that setup if a feed management tool already owns your product data. It can also serve as your full feed.

How often does CustomPix update the feed?

Every 24 hours. CustomPix pulls product data from your Shopify store daily and regenerates the feed with any price changes, new products or image selections. There is no real-time update, so a sale price set in the morning appears the following day.

Does CustomPix offer an annual plan?

Not in its published pricing. The Shopify App Store listing shows monthly plans only, so there is no annual prepay discount to weigh against the monthly rate. Billing runs through Shopify with no long-term contract.

Can I add custom text beyond price and badges?

CustomPix supports dynamic template data including prices, discounts, badges, and Shopify metafields. If the text you want to display is stored in a supported metafield, you can use that data in your template.
